FROM THE DESK OF ROGER NEWELL, PRESIDENT ACF CENTRAL FL. CHAPTER

Greetings Fellow Culinarians,

Heading into another hopefully busy summer season, I just want to bring you up to date on some of the happenings in the chapter.

April 15th may have been tax day but there was more last minute work at Taste of Compassion, than at the average calculator. Once again our chapter members and associates came through and we were able to set up 22 food stations to help our friends from Compassion Corner. All the pieces came together perfectly, good weather, great food selections, and another unbelievable crowd. Thanks again to all the Chefs and vendors who participated this year, and kudos to Chef Richard Cote for another well organized and orchestrated event. The final numbers are not in as of yet, but when they are I will let you know how well we did for Compassion Corner.

The social meeting held on May 5th, was another great evening for the chapter. Again, the weather was just perfect. Just enough breeze to give you the feeling of being in the islands. Thank you to Chef Peter Olsacher, and all the folks at Bahama Breeze for a very nice buffet and atmosphere, and thanks to our sponsors, Todd’s tomatoes, Roma Foods, and the Dakota Group for providing us with the opportunity for old friends to get together and practice that lost art….talking face to face.

Congratulations to our 2nd Vice-President Nora Galdiano, CEC for successfully completing her CEC practical exam. Well deserved, and never a doubt…

Our final meeting before the summer break will be held on Monday June 2nd at the Omni at Championsgate Resort, hosted by Chef Bern Mueller. Directions and meeting information is available on the website, www.acfcfc.org. We are pleased to have with us that evening, Chef David Ramirez, Executive Pastry Chef at Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. Chef David will be doing a sugar demo for us, and we are looking forward to that.

Hope to see you all there.

Stay safe,
Chef Roger
