| FROM THE DESK OF ROGER NEWELL, PRESIDENT ACF CENTRAL FL. CHAPTER |
Greetings Fellow Culinarians,
I don’t want to jinx anybody, but here we are almost done with the month of October, and we have managed to stay out of the way of….those storms with names. That’s the closest I’m getting to saying the H word.
Without a doubt, this has been one of the most trying summers for our industry. The state of the economy has forced a lot of would be tourists to really be careful about their discretionary spending. Taking the family out to a casual dinner has become a special event. I hope that you and your operation have done well and are looking forward to a rebound in the fall.
If you were not able to attend the October general meeting at OCA, you missed a good one. Carolyn Jones, Certified Sommelier and spirits instructor for the Orlando Culinary Academy presented a most enjoyable and entertaining wine and food pairing, that was appreciated by all those in attendance.
We will finish out the year of general meetings on November 3rd, with a pastry demonstration by Chef Steven Rujak, Executive Sous Chef/Pastry Chef of the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. Steven is an ACF National Pastry Chef of the Year and we are looking forward to the evening.
This year will also be first for the chapter. In an effort to go “green”, we will be sending our Chef of the Year ballot to you via e-mail. So, the obvious question now, is do we have your correct email address? If you are reading this, then we do. If someone told you about this message and you are a Professional Culinarian (formerly active member), than take a moment get on the website www.acfcfc.org, and add your email address to the box at the bottom of the home page.
Once again, we are pleased to announce the Chef Steve Jayson and the staff of Universal Orlando will be hosting our annual chapter Christmas party. This family event will be held on Sunday December 14th, at Seuss’s Landing. Complete details concerning time and directions will be posted on the website very soon, so mark your calendar.
In closing, Tuesday November 4th is Election Day. Make your voice heard. If you don’t vote, don’t complain.
Stay safe, and see you soon.
Chef Roger
