FROM THE DESK OF ROGER NEWELL, PRESIDENT ACF CENTRAL FL. CHAPTER

Greetings Fellow Culinarians,

As I write this letter, the aroma of roasting turkey is working its way into my office. I will try and concentrate and finish, but it won’t be easy.

Well, we made it. It’s the end of November and except for one good dousing, we had a pretty tame hurricane season. Some of our peers in other parts of the country were not so fortunate, so please keep them in your thoughts.

As we head into this holiday season, there are a lot of mixed emotions. Our industry is in turmoil, jobs are scarce, and everyone is looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Now is the time for us to keep our heads held high, stay strong, be smart, and try to provide a ray of hope for our families and peers. We live in the greatest country in the world, and we will pass this test; just as we have passed others.

The Central FL chapter has had another very strong year, and has provided some support for quite a few community projects. These are things that could not have been done without the support of the membership, and for that we thank you very much.

December brings us the opportunity to sponsor the Christmas party for the Give Kids the World Village. Spending an evening with the children and families in the village gives you a whole new outlook on life, and it is something we all look forward to doing every year.

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the annual chapter Christmas party will be held at Universal Orlando-Seuss’s Landing on Sunday December 14th, starting at 6:30. This party is for members and immediate family only, so please make sure you RSVP to Chef Nora Galdiano at 407-864-8822.

As I have mentioned before, this will be the first year that we will be sending the ballots for Chef of the Year to you electronically. In the next week or so, all eligible voters will receive a post card explaining how the election will work and the process if you do not have e-mail. We have plenty of time, and we will make sure you have the opportunity to vote.
The annual Presidents award dinner will be held on Sunday January 11, 2009 at The Omni at Championsgate. Details will be available on the website, www.acfcfc.org or you can contact me personally.

From my family to yours, I hope you all have a safe, happy, and prosperous holiday season.

Stay safe, and I hope to see you soon.

Chef Roger
