| FROM THE DESK OF ROGER NEWELL, PRESIDENT ACF CENTRAL FL. CHAPTER |
Greetings Fellow Culinarians,
It has been a while since I have updated my message to you, and for that I apologize.
The beginning of the summer was very hectic, and not finding time to update you is not an excuse, just a feeble explanation.
I am sure you are aware that the ACF National Convention was held in Orlando in mid-July, and due to the efforts of so many of our members, it was a huge success. Still today I get emails thanking us for our hospitality, and the national office was also very appreciative.
Our new national president, Chef Michael Ty has jumped into his position with great enthusiasm, and I encourage anyone who has an issue or question, to not hesitate to contact him. He is a very open guy, and will do his best to answer your questions. Remember, it is your organization.
Locally we have been very busy. The annual FRLA Restaurant Show and ACF/CFC Culinary competition concluded this past weekend, and again, it was a rousing success. Kudos to Chef Steve Jayson, his brigade from Universal Studios, and the many volunteers, both student and professional who took time from their schedules and personal lives to insure the success of this show. Despite the state of the economy, we had a very large turnout of competitors, including well over 30 chefs from South America. A belated welcome to them, and we hope to see you again next year.
Our general monthly meetings will begin again in September, on the 21st @ Orlando Culinary Academy, and we look forward to seeing you.
I strongly encourage all active professional members to attend the remainder of the meetings this year, as we will be accepting nominations for new officers and board members over the next two meetings, with platform presentations being made in November. This is your organization, and I cannot stress how important your participation in the selection of officers is.
Also this fall, following the election of officers, will be the selection of the chapter Chef of the Year, and the Culinarian of the Year. Remember the criteria for both of these honors are available on the chapter website, and nominations need to be in by December 15th. Your nominations can be downloaded and mailed to: Roger Newell, 285 East Lakeshore Blvd, Kissimmee, FL 34744 or e-mailed to rogerfsd@yahoo.com.
Remember both the officers elections, and Chef of the Year and Culinarian of the Year will be done on line this year. If you do not have computer access, please contact me at the above mailing address.
Wishing you a prosperous fall, stay safe.
Chef Roger |
