| FROM THE DESK OF NORA GALDIANO, PRESIDENT ACF CENTRAL FLA CHAPTER |
| | President's Message January 10, 2010 |
Greetings fellow chefs and colleagues!
I hope that everyone had a fantastic and memorable holiday season! I’m very humbled and honored to be your president for the 2010-2011 term. The new board members were inducted at the President’s dinner held at Isleworth Golf and Country Club. The Isleworth Team and student volunteers from Mid Florida Tech College did a superb job in taking care of our event!
As we move forward, the ACF Central Florida Chapter will continue to be a leading chapter in the nation not because we are close to the headquarters but because of what we do as a chapter for our members and our community.
These are some of my goals for the coming year:
First, we will reach out to chefs and new people in the area. Invite them to the meetings and give them a “trial period” before joining so they get a “feel” of what it’s like to be a part of the ACF organization. This will require everyone’s help to get the word out. Also, I would like to invite existing members back to our monthly meetings so you can benefit from our educational seminars and network with colleagues in our industry.
Second, is to increase member benefits by incorporating educational seminars in our meetings that will count towards certification credits. Also, to offer a certification workshop and a practical exam right here in Orlando. My goal is to insure that your ACFCFC membership remains a valuable career asset.
Third, is to include new ideas from the membership and utilize the technology that is available out there such as taking video clips of seminars and demos and posting them on the website.
I am optimistic that we will accomplish these goals together as a team!
I’m planning on taking most of our meetings on the road this year. Hopefully this will create excitement and increase attendance. This will allow our (young) members to see the different establishments in our industry and the opportunity to tour the host kitchens. Here’s a sneak peak of what’s coming up with the monthly meetings and educational seminars:
February 1st- Royal Pacific Hotel: Austrian Master Chefs Han Hickel & Andreas Proisl will show us “The Art of Artisanal Strudel Making”
March 1st- Mid Florida Technical College: Fresh Point Market will present Exotic & Specialty Produce & Cheeses
April 5th- Bar Harbor Seafood : They will educate us about the Seafood Industry.
May- I’m planning a collaborative event with the Sunshine Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America. Stay tuned for that!
I personally, want to take a moment and recognize three Chefs who are heading to Birmingham, Alabama at the Southeast Regional Conference in April to compete for the Regional Title. Chef Bernd Mueller from the Omni Champions Gate Hotel for Chefs Professionalism Award, Chef Ken Bourgoin from Valencia Community College for Educator of the Year, and Chef Andreas Proisl from Isleworth Golf and Country Club for Pastry Chef of the Year. I am proud of these gentlemen for representing our Chapter! I know they will do well!
I welcome any ideas, comments, suggestions, and feedback. Tell me what is important to you and what you would like to see happen in our chapter.
I look forward to an exciting year and working with all of you!
Cheers!
Nora Galdiano, CEC
