| President’s Message February 2010 |
Greetings Chefs and Fellow Culinarians,
I hope that you and your loved one enjoyed your Valentines!
We started our first meeting of the year with a bang! We saw faces that we have not seen for a while. Many guests and potential members attended. The culinary team from Royal Pacific Resort prepared scrumptious hors d’ oeuvres for the reception. Chef Hans Hickel showed us the “Art of Strudel Making”, a craft that he learned as a young boy from his grandmother in Austria.
We have established a Certification Chairman for our Chapter. Russell Scott, CMC, 2nd Vice President will be our contact person for ACF certification. Chef Russell can be reached by phone 407-909-2025 or via e-mail rscott@isleworth.com. Our chapter is currently working to schedule a Certification Seminar in the summer and will be scheduling practical exams as needed.
I am pleased to announce that our chapter now has a “Central Florida Chef’s Association” group in LinkedIn, a business networking site. By joining this group, members will have networking access to many professionals in our industry. The site will be managed by Chef Michael Lodge, CFBE, Corresponding Secretary, who created the group. If you wish to join the Central Florida Chef’s Association group in LinkedIn, please contact Chef Michael at 407-212-9249 or mlodge1@aol.com.
In our continuous efforts to reach out to the community and assist the people in need, the Board has decided to donate $2,000 into the Haiti Relief Fund. The idea of the donation was prompted by Chefs Roger Newell, CEC, CCE, CCA, and Bernd Mueller CEC, AAC.
For those of you who are planning on attending the Southeast Region Conference in Birmingham, Alabama on April 24-26th, the deadline for discounted registration is quickly approaching. The “BEST DEAL” for a full registration package is $300 for Culinarian, Professional Culinarian, Allied, and Associate members and $260 for Senior, Junior, and Student members. Those prices require 3 nights minimum stay at the official conference hotel. The early registration discount is good through April 8, 2010. Please refer to our national website: www.acfchefs.org for full details.
Our next meeting on Monday, March 1st at Mid Florida Tech College will be hosted by Chef Lauren Cooke, CEPC and her students. Meeting starts at 7:00 PM. The team from Fresh Point Reds Market will showcase different Exotic and Specialty Produce & Cheeses as well as some pre-cut items that will help you trim down your labor cost.
I look forward to see you at the next general meeting!
Chef Nora |
